Radha Anjali, India, dance

Radha Anjali began her dance training at the age of eight. She studied Indian dance in private tuition, classical ballet and modern dance at the Vienna music school as well as the Pfundmayr-Tagunoff ballet school. By participating in several summer courses for dance at the Vienna-based academy for music and performing arts she acquired basic skills in national dance, flamenco, Graham and Chladek techniques.

In 1978 Radha Anjali met the Indian dancer Kama Dev. Fascinated by his personality and way of teaching, she intensively studied the classical south Indian Bharatanatyam dance style. She received the foundations of her training from him.

In Chennai/India, Radha Anjali studied with Adyar K. Lakshman in his Bharata Choodamani Academy of Fine Arts and with Kalanidhi Narayanan at her Abhinaya Sudha Institute. She performed together with Kama Dev in his Kama Dev Indian Dance Company and was equally successful as a solo dancer in Austria and abroad.

Meanwhile Radha Anjali has become a teacher both at the sports institute of the university of Vienna and at her own Natya Mandir school of dance. As a dancer, she has earned great success not only in the traditional Bharatanatyam style, but also through her own choreographies that fuse elements of contemporary dance with classical Indian dance.
