This storyteller stems from the tradition of oriental storytelling.
Characterised by a different form of language, religion and tradition,
her tales are about the everyday life of Iraqis; about their hopes
and dreams. In tones both loud and soft by turns, she abducts her
audience to the bazaars of Baghdad. In particular, Huda Al-Hilali
takes up themes which meet with little attention given the ruling
clichés about Iraq, such as one-party dictatorship, suppression
of minorities and opposition, and armament. In her narrations, she
queries the position of woman. Through her stories she wants to
express everyday life in this isolated country.
